RJH has completed a drilling program at Redmesa Reservoir, also known as Mormon Reservoir, in La Plata County, Colorado. The existing dam is a 59-foot-tall, high-hazard earthen embankment. RJH is working with the owner to evaluate current conditions of the site, and design and implement modifications to improve dam safety.
The drilling program included drilling borings within the dam, abutments, and spillway to evaluate subsurface conditions and collect samples for laboratory testing. Drilling was performed using hollow-stem augers and advanced to depths of up to 105 feet. The program also included excavating test pits and installing monitoring wells. The next phase of the project will include conceptual-level design to identity a preferred rehabilitation concept.
